The drawers are labelled in pencil, and the pencil is sometimes wrong.
A3 is the bullet heads. B1 is the brass hinges, until it isn’t, because I moved them to the tin by the window last month and didn’t rub out the old card. C4 says washers and means gate screws. D2 is tape measures, two of them, eight metres, one with a bent hook that still reads true if you know about the hook.
I could make a list and pin it up. People read the list and then ask anyway, and the list goes out of date the afternoon someone buys the last of something. So the aisle is the list. Open a drawer.
If you can’t find it, I’m usually at the counter with the radio. The side door, not the front.
